I also attended AWP and I really enjoyed hearing about all of the different events you went to simply because I went to different ones than you did! For instance, I attended a "We Love Memoir" event in a bar and a walk through Little Tokyo with a local journalist. But there was never enough time to go to all the events and see all the panels that I wished to!
Thank you so much, Martin!! Loved reading about your visit to my town, too. The New Beverly is such a special place, how fortuitous you were staying right by it and got to experience it! And a hike at the END of the week? I'm in awe. I was in bed by 7pm that night!
I went straight to LAX from the hike and fell asleep in the terminal, and almost missed my flight, so there's that, hah. Great time, all around, though! It was nice to meet you in person. Always a cool experience after reading someone's book.
I was there too, and what fun to read how different your experience was from mine. I guess no two writers experience a conference the same way! I especially loved watching the sun set on the rooftop bar at the AC Hotel...when I wasn't prowling the bookfair floor (and speaking there!) or pondering panelists discussing strategies for writing against political headwinds.
Highlights for me were acing my presentation--by really connecting with the audience. And seeing how many hundreds of vibrant publishers are out there! Also, the networking: Wonderful conversations with total strangers.

I know, I had about 25 pictures of different events in my phone. It was definitely a choose your own adventure!

It blows me away how diverse the writing ecosystem is. Love that everyone gets to choose their own adventure? What were your highlights?

Nice! What was your presentation about?
Reading from Wrangling the Doubt Monster and discussing how creative people can manage doubt .
