"And where are the modern-day Medicis? Of course, we all have to pay the bills but I wonder if the next Michelangelo is out there driving Ubers because rent is due and no one’s buying his works of genius shoved beside the water heater in his walk-up apartment." The next literary Michelangelo might be right here on Substack, but lack of visibility shoves their genius behind the proverbial water heater!

Great tribute. Is that your uncle at the Magic House in St Louis?

Sure is! Are you from Stl? I was born and raised there. Just went back to the magic house in February for the first time in about 25 years.

Sure am! Born and raised in St Charles and bounced around the area all my life. Small world! I have not been to the MH in awhile.

Love it. Yeah, it was a total throwback. There were things in there (like the hair ball and the shadow wall) that have definitely not changed one bit since we were kids.

I love it when the bar is high. It’s a total blessing. My dad was cool and creative - a real rebel. Since he passed away I have thought a lot about how he did himself no matter what. It’s always been me - never an easy road — but one well worth taking.

You and your uncle are very cool. I loved that story.
